These 4 oil lamps represent the four trustees of The Paul Project
Saul (the Apostle Paul's name before his conversion) was born in Tarsus, a city in the ancient asian province of Cilicia. Although he was raised in a Jewish family, he was a Roman citizen due to his birth in a free city.
He went, early in life, to a Pharisaic Rabbinical school in Jerusalem led by the well-known Rabbi Gamaliel and eventually became a Pharisee. The first appearance of Paul (Saul) in the Bible is as a zealous young man who witnesses the stoning of Stephen, the first Christian martyr (Acts 7).
Shortly after that he lead a major persecution against Christians in Jerusalem and then traveled to Damascus to find still more believers. Precious Father God confronted him while on the road to Damascus and caused him to repent. Shortly after that he received baptism and began a dynamic thirty-five year evangelistic career as the apostle Paul!
During his ministry, Paul wrote 14 epistles (letters) that become about two thirds of the New Testament. He also conducted at least 5 missionary journeys (44 to 46, 49 to 52, 53 to 58, 60 to 63, and 63 to 67 A.D.) that took him back to Asia Minor, and then on to Syria, Greece, Italy and elsewhere. Rumours abound that he visited Spain and Britain but there is no written proof of this.
In his 35 year ministry, Paul evangelised countless cities and helped train others such as Timothy and John Mark to do the same.
Now his work continues with The Paul Project as the churches of Port Elizabeth gather together to work together on many different and varied projects, all aimed at bringing unity to the church as a whole - that’s YOU and me.
The projects range from reaching out to the poor and destitute once a year at a really slap up lunch, new clothing and all sorts of pampering at something known as the Matthew Lunch, to brick making, church building and looking for old unwanted sewing machines and lawnmowers and disused garden tools to help the less fortunate start their own businesses.
All in all, it is based on a well known saying that is actually attributed to Aesop, an ancient Greek slave, released and turned philosopher, who said, “United we stand, divided we fall.”
That is so true of the church today.
Precious Father God used Oil lamps in a parable about the 5 wise virgins and the 5 foolish virgins as a symbol of the measure of your own faith and love for Him. Please make sure that your own oil lamp is FULL of FAITH and GENUINE PASSIONATE TRUE LOVE for Him and DON’T be caught having to run off someplace and learn about Him or try to find some Faith “Oil” somewhere at the last minute because it is in that minute that you are searching for faith that the bridegroom (Jesus) will come and if you’ve read the parable you KNOW full well what happens to the “Unwise” virgins...
As links between the pages of this website, and as a consistent reminder to you and I that time is rapidly running out, we have used a light bulb with the earth spinning around inside it. This represents the scripture where Jesus Himself teaches us in John 12:35 that we “are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going.”
Or who is there among you, who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?
Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know
how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in
heaven give good things to those who ask him!
